Planning a wedding and hiring the perfect London wedding photographer is about asking the right questions. After photographing weddings all over London, West Sussex, Surrey, Kent (and the world!), I have collected together the most frequently asked questions to help with your planning.

 London Mayfair Wedding Photography Prices

Q. ARE YOU AVAILABLE?

A. Ask early. The sooner you book me, the better. Every year I have to send a number of emails (after numerous emails back and forth about options) to confirm that I am no longer available for a date – someone has booked me. If you love my work, book me for all day coverage and then discuss additional coverage, albums etc.

Q. WHAT IS MY APPROACH / STYLE?

A. Most of my day shooting your wedding will be spent in Documentary/Reportage mode, with some fashion inspired creativity mixed in at points. I shoot what I see and always aim to convey the laughter, fun and occasionally tears from your day. I then pick the best images to tell the story of your day and complete the editing before delivering you the full and final set of images.

Q. WHAT ARE YOUR OFFICE HOURS?

A. On days when I am not shooting, I generally try to keep normal office hours of 9-5. However, I’m always available via email, but it’s not an instant response medium and couples images take precedence – admin is a poor relation!

Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF WE WANT EXTRA EDITING AFTER YOU HAVE DELIVERED THE IMAGES?

A. This very rarely comes up, but should you for example want a particular image or two to be flawless as you plan to have them printed for a massive wall display then, subject to the work required being reasonable and within my skillset (photoshop doesn’t have a CURE ALL button) then I am happy to polish a couple. Any more extensive work is either chargeable at my standard hourly editing rate of £50 or, if I believe it will work out cheaper for you, I can send it to a specialist photo retoucher.

Q. HAVE YOU PHOTOGRAPHED AT THIS WEDDING VENUE BEFORE?

A. The answer is often yes, but we can talk about why it doesn’t make a significant difference when we meet. I always either pre-visit a place that’s new to me or do my research thoroughly where a visit isn’t possible.

Q. WHAT AREAS DO YOU COVER?

A. I shoot all over the World, but I am primarily a London wedding photographer and also have a base in West Sussex on the South Coast. I’m often found at London wedding venues but I have also shot weddings in Edinburgh and I’ve even travelled to Sydney, Australia, to snap the nuptials of one bride and groom. So if your wedding venue is between here and Sydney it’s a safe bet I’m happy to do it. Additional costs will apply.

Q. DO WE NEED TO FEED YOU?

If I am at your wedding for 6 hours or more, then yes please. Us wedding photographers are usually the only people working for that stretch of time and, just like a car, we need fuel and water. I’m relaxed about whether my team sits with the guests or not. However, if we eat elsewhere then we cannot guarantee to be on hand to capture anything impromptu during the meal. Eating with the guests also avoids the other question of getting the venue to feed us at the same time as you – when you are eating is the only time I would not want to shoot and is subsequently the best time for me to eat to avoid losing shooting time. Please give me a call if you would like to discuss this further – I’m very happy to talk it all through.

Q. HOW DO WE GET TO SEE OUR IMAGES?

I aim to have your wedding images uploaded to a secure password protected area of my website within 6-12 weeks of your big day, but at busy times of year this can be longer. My image processing for most weddings is at least 3-4 solid days of work. Go to my website, enter your password and browse your gallery – it’s that simple. I sometimes select a few images for Facebook as an appetiser.

Q. CAN WE ORDER PRINTS AND OTHER PRODUCTS FROM YOU?

A. Of course! A huge selection of prints, CD and other commemorative products are available directly via my online galleries, plus I offer a variety of beautiful albums to suit most budgets.

Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

A. In many cultures, rain on your wedding day is considered lucky – and I have shot in rain so fierce that it literally was coming in sideways. I usually carry a few white umbrellas with me and shots in overcast and stormy weather actually make for beautiful, romantic images. If you prefer not to expose yourselves to the elements, we can always scope out a backup location.

Q. HOW OLD ARE YOUR CHILDREN?

A. This question crops up a lot but is has nothing to do with weddings. However, it is important. Children are often an integral part of getting married – whether they’re your own children or mini guests. Because I’m a dad and spend lots of time photographing little people (I’m often taking children’s portraits when I’m not snapping weddings!) I’m comfortable with everyone, including tantrumming toddlers or uncooperative pre-schoolers. To answer the question, my little monkeys are currently 3 years, 7 years and 9 years old.

Q: HELP! WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG TO LEAVE IN OUR SCHEDULE FOR THE GROUP PHOTOS THAT WE WANT!

A: Not a problem! I am happy to advise and be as involved as you wish in planning the schedule for the day. I generally advise leaving at least 3-4 minutes per group photo.

Q: WHAT TIME OF DAY WOULD YOU ADVISE GETTING THOSE ROMANTIC COUPLE SHOTS?

A: There’s a reason that the hour before sunset is called ‘golden hour’ – and that’s because this is when the light is soft and flattering and bathes everything in a golden glow. One of the things I always research is what direction the sun will set, and the exact time of sunset on your wedding day. If it’s possible within your schedule to steal a few minutes with you at this time, then perfect. If not, we’ll work with what we have and be creative! In general, my approach is to grab you for maybe 5-10 minutes two or three times across the day making use of different light/weather/locations and meaning you never get bored!

Q: WE WOULD LIKE TO ORDER PRODUCTS THAT WEREN’T INCLUDED IN OUR PACKAGE – ARE WE ABLE TO ADD THESE ON AFTERWARDS?

A: Of course. I understand that budgets are not infinite and that it might not always be possible to commit funds to all the products that you might want. Product prices change, but I keep all images backed up for a period of time, so even if you decide to order a wedding album for your wedding anniversary (very neatly, the 1st anniversary is paper…), this will still be possible.

Q: ARE YOU INSURED?

A: Yes. I carry comprehensive insurance, though can thankfully say that I’ve never needed it!

Q: WE HAVE HAD TO MOVE OUR WEDDING DATE/VENUE! CAN WE STILL KEEP YOU AS OUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

A: As long as the logistics of the new venue do not pose undue complications, and/or the new date is still available, of course!

Q: HOW DO WE BOOK YOU?

A: Complete my contact form to start the process of booking me as your Wedding Photographer and I will send you an online contract. On receipt of the booking fee and signed contract (online digital process these days), I will accept the contract and at that point your wedding date will be firmly booked.
